Simply Shutters premium quality White Line louvre doors are finished in a high quality polyurethane paint and can be hung just as they are; no painting required!
However, we understand that sometimes you may just want to apply your own topcoat or change the colour of the door altogether to match an existing scheme.
If you have made the choice to paint your doors, we recommend using Rustoleum Satin or Gloss Furniture Paint. Please see painting guide below:
Top Tip: before you commit to painting your entire door, it is good practice to first paint a small test area on the door.
1. For best results begin by lightly sanding the existing paint finish. A fine to medium grit sandpaper will work best; 240 grit is ideal.
Top Tip: the door will only need a light scuffing, please be careful not to over abrade the paint finish.
2. Once you have finished sanding you are ready to apply your first coat of paint. Using either a brush or roller apply paint evenly over the door ensuring coverage on each louvre blade as well as the stiles and rails.
Top Tip: Stir the paint thoroughly prior to use to ensure there is no separation and the paint is ready to apply.
3. After you have applied the first coat leave the paint to dry. The paint will be touch dry in 1 hour but please allow at least 4 hours for the paint to dry fully.
4. Depending on the coverage required you will find that two coats will normally be sufficient. Once your first coat is completely dry then apply your second coat.
5. Leave to dry for 4 hours minimum. Paint will be fully cured after seven days. Rustoleum paint has a coverage of 14m2/ litre although this may vary depending on application method and surface absorbency.
Top Tip: When cleaning brushes after use ensure that you remove as much paint as possible before cleaning with water. Do not pour paint into drains or down sinks. If in doubt please contact your local authority who may have special facilities for paint disposal.
